Application for the Master’s in Public Health (MPH) program

This is a two-year program that utilises both online and face to face interactions. Selected students will be required to attend compulsory summer and Winter Schools, which are held on Campus in January/February and June/July respectively. Although this is an online program, all exams are written on campus.

Additional, you need to be competent in using the computer. You also need to have a computer and internet facilities for the duration of your study

Also note that meeting the minimum requirements as stated do not guarantee acceptance to the program. Applicants are ranked according to a departmental scoring system and applicants with the highest scores are selected.

For all qualifications obtained outside South Africa, SAQA evaluation certificate of academic qualifications must accompany the application for admission. Students who will be registered at another institution at the time of application will not be considered for admission to the program.

Note: only complete applications with all the required documents will be considered. All documents which are required to be certified must be submitted as such.

Application for the Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health program

This is a 120 credit one-year program (consisting of 2 semesters), which requires one week of contact time per semester, and weekly online contributions (through e-learning).

The following documentation must be enclosed with the Postgraduate Diploma and a Master’s of Public Health application:

  • An enrolment form
  • A one page essay describing your reasons for wishing to pursue a career in public health.
  • An essay should not be longer than 1 page and should not include a summary of your CV (Motivation)
  • A statement on computer skills, which include a list of computer-based activities that you perform
  • Curriculum Vitae which highlight the following:
    o Your current position and activities
    o Details of previous and current research activities
    o Details of any community involvement
  • Certified copies of all tertiary qualifications
  • Certified copies of academic records from previous universities attended
  • Certified copy of Grade 12 certificate
  • Certified copy of your ID or passport
  • If English was not the language of instruction in your tertiary studies, provide proof of English proficiency.
  • SAQA evaluation certificate, (if applicable)
  • A certificate of registration with a Professional Council ( if applicable)
