Pharmaceutical Sciences

The Pharmaceutical Sciences division is actively involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate activities within the School of Pharmacy. The division boasts subject matter experts that coordinate and present modules in the undergraduate program, encompassing a wide array of topics such as chemistry, principles of manufacturing, and sterile products, to mention a few. Staff are engaged in supervising research projects at all levels of study and conduct independent research as well.

The Pharmaceutical Science division collaborates extensively with various departments within the University as highlighted below:

  • School of Medicine: Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Department of Microbiology, Department of Medical Physics and Department of Nuclear Medicine
  • School of Science and Technology: Department of Chemistry and Department of Biochemistry

Specialty research focus areas of the division:

Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Pharmaceutics and Radiopharmacy.

Skills honed in the division include the following:

Postgraduate students from the division develop into independent, self-motivated research scientists who:

• are able to contribute their specialized skills and expertise to industry and other organizations • utilize and contribute nationally and internationally to the resources, facilities and expertise of institutions, organizations, government and statutory bodies • exhibit transformative leadership capacity to identify, analyse and address the health needs of the individual, the family, the community and the population
