Due to the unusual challenges of Covid‐19 Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University will host virtual graduation ceremonies during 2021.
The University will use this majestic occasion to confer undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications to a total of 1340 graduates from its Five Schools who are destined to serve their communities after spending years of training and hard work at SMU.
Since its establishment in 2014 and having opened its doors to the first cohort of students in January 2015, SMU has so far conferred qualifications to over 5000 people. These ranged from Higher certificates, Diplomas, Advanced diplomas, Undergraduate Degrees, Honours, Masters and Doctoral Degrees.
“The graduations ceremonies serve as a highlight in the lives of both the university, its students, families and other key partners. SMU congratulates all those graduating and wish them well as they prepare to enjoy the moment with their loved ones. We hope that they will go out and serve their communities with pride and raise the SMU flag as they perform their responsibilities including during this difficult era of the Covid‐19 pandemic”, says Dr Eric Pule, SMU Spokesperson.
The breakdown of the qualifications, that will be awarded virtually is as follows:
Honours & Postgrads Diplomas: 188
The Health Sciences University will broadcast three separate ceremonies online. These ceremonies will be available for online viewing by graduates, parents and friends via online streaming.

The School of Health Care Sciences and the School of Pharmacy
11 June 2021
The School of Medicine and the School of Oral Health Sciences
