About the Lab
The Department of Hand and Microsurgery at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University prides itself on being one of the sought-after microsurgical training facilities in South Africa. Our training facility is dedicated to advancing microsurgical techniques and training the next generation of leaders in microvascular surgery.
In its early days, microsurgery was only attempted by a few, but it has since become a part of all major surgical disciplines. There is nothing extraordinary about it; it is merely a technique that must be learned and practiced. Doing a course in microsurgery leads to a deeper respect for tissue. Once seen under stereo magnification, the beauty and delicacy, yet intricacy, of the tissues become evident, and one thinks twice before being careless or rough with tissue ever again.
