PURPOSE OF THE CALL The purpose of this call is to obtain a list of applicants who have the potential to be appointed as CUTL tutors in order to offer tutorial support to vulnerable students. The tutors will be available for appointment to specific schools and allocated to students who are at-risk of failure or academic exclusion. We need tutors for all academic programs, especially programs in the school of Oral Health, Medicine and Health Care Sciences. Minimum Requirements 1. A minimum academic performance of 65% average in the previous year (2021 academic year) of study 2. PhD Scholarship ProgrammeRequirements: • The candidates must be South African citizens or permanent residents. • Disabled individuals are strongly encouraged to apply. • Preference will be given to candidates from the historically disadvantaged group. • Full-time employees may not hold an RCDI-Nested PhD ScholarshipResponsibilities: • Publication of at least one journal article per year and delivering seminar and conference presentations. • Mentorship or co-supervision of postgraduate students. • Provision of research support in areas of expertise. • Contributions to the activities of the Department of Biology and Environmental Science. The value of the scholarship is R200 000.00 per financial year. Renewal of the funding for each year will be subject to receipt of satisfactory progress reports and funding availability. Postdoctoral Research FellowRequirements:
  • The candidates must be South African citizens or permanent residents, younger than 40 years and nominees over 40 years need a strong motivation and post-PhD experience less than 3 years.
  • Candidates must be within five years of graduating with their PhD research doctorate.
  • Women and disabled individuals are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Preference will be given to candidates from the historically disadvantaged group.
  • Full-time employees may not hold an RCDI-Nested Postdoctoral Fellowship.
In addition to the above, the following would be advantageous:
  • Experience in postgraduate student mentorship.
Responsibilities:
  • Publication of at least two journal article per year and delivering seminar and conference presentations.
  • Mentorship or co-supervision of postgraduate students.
  • Provision of research support in areas of expertise.
  • Contributions to the activities of the Department of Biology and Environmental Science.
The fellowship has a value of R350,000 per annum. The fellowship is to be taken in May 2022, to be renewed for 2023 and 2024 on condition of satisfactory progress. The successful candidate will be required to register as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Sefako Makgatho Health Science University and to comply with the policies and practices of the postdoctoral sector.
