PhD Scholarship Programme

Requirements:

• The candidates must be South African citizens or permanent residents.
• Disabled individuals are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Preference will be given to candidates from the historically disadvantaged group.
• Full-time employees may not hold an RCDI-Nested PhD Scholarship

Responsibilities:

• Publication of at least one journal article per year and delivering seminar and conference presentations.
• Mentorship or co-supervision of postgraduate students.
• Provision of research support in areas of expertise.
• Contributions to the activities of the Department of Biology and Environmental Science.

The value of the scholarship is R200 000.00 per financial year. Renewal of the funding for each year will be subject to receipt of satisfactory progress reports and funding availability. The successful candidate will be required to register as a PhD at the Sefako Makgatho Health Science University and to comply with the policies and practices of the post-graduate sector.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Requirements:

  • The candidates must be South African citizens or permanent residents, younger
    than 40 years and nominees over 40 years need a strong motivation and post-PhD
    experience less than 3 years.
  • Candidates must be within five years of graduating with their PhD research
    doctorate.
  • Women and disabled individuals are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Preference will be given to candidates from the historically disadvantaged group.
  • Full-time employees may not hold an RCDI-Nested Postdoctoral Fellowship.

In addition to the above, the following would be advantageous:

  • Experience in postgraduate student mentorship.

Responsibilities:

  • Publication of at least two journal article per year and delivering seminar and conference
    presentations.
  • Mentorship or co-supervision of postgraduate students.
  • Provision of research support in areas of expertise.
  • Contributions to the activities of the Department of Biology and Environmental Science.

The fellowship has a value of R350,000 per annum. The fellowship is to be taken in May 2022, to be renewed for 2023 and 2024 on condition of satisfactory progress. The successful candidate will be required to register as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Sefako Makgatho Health Science University and to comply with the policies and practices of the postdoctoral sector.

National Youth Service Programme

Vacancy for unemployed Science graduate
Volunteers will be based at the South African Mathematics Foundation in Pretoria
This is a 12 month contract position for an unemployed Science graduate

Requirements
· A BSc Degree with Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and/or Statistics as majors
· Good communication skills
· Good organising skills
· Good analytical skills
· Ability to work under pressure and multi-task
· South African citizen
· Between age 18-35

The volunteer will be required to:
· Assist with project administration.
· Collect and analyse data relevant to projects.
· Maintenance of data on MS SQL database.

Stipends paid to volunteers per month are as follows:
· Bachelor’s Degree (R5 000)
· Honours (R5 500)
· Masters (R6 500)
· PhD (R7 700)
