Notice of a Convocation General Meeting

Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) was established on 14 May 2014 and came into full operation on 1 January 2015.

In terms of paragraph 48(2) of the Statute (2016), the SMU is required to establish a Convocation to:

a. facilitate liaison between the University and its former students and academic employees;
b. create networks and canvass support for the strategic objectives of the University; and
c. organise former students and academic employees of the University with a view to facilitating representation of this constituency on appropriate governance structures.

Accordingly, and consistent with paragraph 50 of the Statute (2016), (i) all persons who obtained a qualification from SMU or its predecessor universities (Medunsa or Medunsa Campus of the University of Limpopo); (ii) academic employees on the staff establishment of SMU, professors emeriti, retired employees, deans of schools; and (iii) all persons who obtained ordinary membership of the Alumni association; are hereby invited to the inaugural General Meeting of Convocation as follows:
