The Department of Surgery has just hosted two national meetings -the Registrars symposium(6-7 July) and the 49th Surgical Research Society of Southern Africa- the SRS ( 8-9 July 2022)
The Registrars symposium involves all the South African University Departments of Surgery and SMU had the following achievements:
- Dr Makhuva won the second overall prize for her oral presentation
- Dr Mlimi won the debate section in his category
- Dr Andre Kipnikoff won the BERT MYBURGH research prize – as his prize he will be sponsored to present his research in the UK next year
- Dr Tegesha Naidoo won the Seals Antrobus prize in Breast research- as part of her prize she will be sponsored to present her research in the USA
- In the junior research section two students and an intern from SMU presented their Research: 1 Courtney Cooper – 5th year medical student and 6th year medical student LE Grange was the second presenter.
- The overall national research winner in the junior section was Dr Tebogo Koto from SMU ( He has previously won the national research prize in his 5th year)
