Notice: Registration of Returning Students

1. REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

a. Registration for final year undergraduate students (excluding final year BSc students) as well as postgraduates students, commence on 10 January 2022.
b. Registration will be online and students will be able to register on and off campus.
c. Students are expected to use their own gadgets (laptops or smart cellular phones) to register.
d. Services such as lifting of academic and/or financial blocks, as well as confirmation of correct choice of modules, will be provided by staff from the Registrar’s Office, Finance Department and the Schools during office hours.
e. Students can use the self-help portal (iEnabler) on the website to check if they have academic and/or financial blocks.
f. International students will not be allowed to register before they are cleared by the International Office. The International Office can be contacted on 012 521 6001. Emails should be sent to: eunice.modiba@smu.ac.za

2. STUDENT FEES AND CLEARANCE

a. Students who were sponsored or received funding from either NSFAS or a Provincial Government and have performed well academically, will be financially cleared and allowed to register. If they have outstanding fees, they should complete Acknowledgement of Debt Form (which is available on the student portal).
b. Students who have not received NSFAS or a Provincial Government funding during 2021 will be required to go through the financial clearance process at the Financial Aid Office.
c. Self-funded students who do not have outstanding fees are required to pay an initial minimum registration fee of R4 500 before they are allowed to register.
d. All academically deserving self-funded students who have outstanding fees are required to make arrangements with the Finance Department and complete Acknowledgement of Debt Form before they are allowed to register.

3. APPLICATION FOR RESIDENCE

a. Students who have applied for University residence and were successful will be allocated their rooms in the Sports Complex after they have registered.
b. They will be required to sign all the relevant forms to be allowed into University residence.

4. STUDENT IDENTITY CARDS

a. Student identity cards of students who were registered in 2021 will remain active until the end of the registration period as some of them will still be engaged with their 2021 supplementary and special examinations.
b. Those who have successfully completed the registration process will receive their 2022 student cards in the Sports Complex.

5. CALL CENTRE

There will be a Call Centre to attend to enquiries and/or re-route them to the relevant Section for assistance during office hours. Students can call the following numbers for assistance: 012 521 4204/ 4319/4644/5057.

III Nobel Fest

Nobel Fest is one of the largest and most influential scientific and educational events on the Eurasian continent.

The key event of the festival is the lectures of the Nobel laureates.This time, such stars as Yuval Noah Harari – world historian and author of the bestselling book “Sapiens: A Brief History of Humanity”, Luc Julia – co- creator of the Siri technology and chief engineer of Renault Group, Jane Goodall- an influential conservationist and UN Peace Ambassador, Jonathan Medved- the father of Israeli startups, Garrick Hilleman- a world expert on cryptocurrencies, and many others will speak at the III Nobel Fest.

Together with them, professors from the most prestigious universities in the world will take part in the festival: the London School of Economics, MIT, the University of California, Imperial College London, the University of Washington, as well as executives and leading experts from major international corporations: Microsoft, Google, SAP, Chevron, Coca- Cola and others.

More than 15 Nobel laureates annually deliver lectures especially for university students.

SMU celebrates PRIDE MONTH in style

The Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) hosted a webinar to mark Pride Month under the theme: Promoting Equality Dignity and Rights of LGBTQI+ Community. Three speakers made notable inputs and covered different topics during the webinar.

SMU publications editor Phaladi Seakgwe spoke to one of the speakers, SMU student and gender activist Talente Biyela to reflect on the Pride Month.

REMINDER: CLOSING DATES

 

Please note that Friday, 23 April 2021 is the closing date for the following:

1. Cancellation of courses and/or modules.
2. Changing of courses and/or modules.
3. Application for exemption from attending a course or module.
4. Submission of applications for exemption from courses passed at other universities.
5. Application for interruption of studies for the 2021 academic year.
6. Submission of all combined reports from (internal & external) examiners for students eligible for the June graduation ceremony.
7. Late registration for all undergraduate and postgraduate students.
8. Confirmation to write May/June examinations by postgraduate students.

The incumbents will be responsible to assist with the administration of the corporate store, marketing and communication projects through the office of the Director and must meet the following requirements, competencies and be responsible for the following key performance areas:

 

REQUIREMENTS

Graphic Designing (will be an advantage)

Must demonstrate knowledge of university systems and processes

REQUIREMENTS:

• A comprehensive CV.
• Certified Copy of 2021 Student Card.
• Certified ID Copy/Passport.
• 2021 Proof of Registration.
• Academic record and 2020 certified copy of results.
• Computer Literacy Certificate (Will be an Advantage).
• Applicant must have passed all subjects and currently registered for BSc Honours (Computer and
Information Technology), Postgraduate studies, Honours or Masters at SMU.
• Not working in other SMU departments.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure.

 

DUTIES:

• The position of the ICT Student Assistant requires the incumbent to lecture Computer Literacy courses.
• Provide support with Blackboard and Turnitin learning management systems, to students and lecturers.
• Assist students in computer laboratories between 7:30 – 24:00.
• Provide technical support with students’ desktops and laptops.
• Provide administrative support, including compiling and writing reports.
• Perform any other adhoc duties as given from time to time.
