Nursing Science Work Integrated Living (WIL)
Nursing Science
Students in the nursing department embark on both academic activities and work-based learning. Work-based learning is compulsory in nursing in order to meet SANC requirements particularly for all students who are registered for clinical courses such as BCUR/BNSA, Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing, Advanced Nursing courses at Honours and Master’s level (Community, Psychiatric and Midwifery). Various clinical facilities such as general, psychiatric and maternity hospitals as well as community health centres at local and provincial levels, occupational health industries, school health services and Midwifery Obstetric Units are used for clinical practice.
The placement of the students in these facilities is done collaboratively with other stakeholders such as universities, nursing colleges and the health services. The Skills Centre is used for simulation of procedures before placement in the clinical facilities. The BCUR/BNSA nursing students are also involved in Inter-Professional learning at third year level to teach them to work and collaborate effectively with other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
